Munros Near Blairgowrie
There are several excellent Munros near Blairgowrie that’re within easy reach, most of them clustered around the Spittal of Glenshee and the Cairnwell Pass, roughly 30–40 minutes to the north. Popular options include the very accessible Cairnwell trio (The Cairnwell, Carn Aosda and Càrn a’ Ghèoidh), or slightly more demanding routes such as Glas Maol.
There are also fantastic options a little further west and north. The Beinn a’ Ghlò range above Blair Atholl offers three superb summits in one outing. Other well‑known hills in the area include Schiehallion, Ben Vrackie (a Corbett), Ben Vuirich (also a Corbett), and the Carn Gorm group, with each providing rewarding days out in the hills.
No matter which routes you choose, always head out well‑prepared and avoid taking on more than you’re comfortable with. If it’s your first Munro, hiring a guide can be a great way to build confidence and enjoy the day safely. Our friends at Outdoor Explore offer guided hill days and can be contacted at info@outdoorexplore.co.uk.
The Cairnwell Munros
This trio of Munros is very achievable. It sets off from Glensheen ski centre, and the usual route is to take in the summit of Carn Aosda, before moving on to Carn a' Gheoidh, and then heading back to finish on The Cairnwell. There are some fantastic views if the weather is on your side.
The ski centre sits at around 650m above sea level, which gives you a helpful head start. It makes this route a bit easier than many other multi‑Munro days, simply because you begin at a higher elevation.
And as a bonus, you’ll find Tea@TheShee at the ski centre. It’s perfect for a warm drink when you get back down to the finish point.
Glas Maol
Glas Maol is one of the highest Munros near Blairgowrie, standing at 1,068m. As with the Cairnwell Munros, most walkers start from the ski centre, giving you a helpful head start at around 650m. From the ski centre car park, the ascent is steady, but there are alternative starting points if you’re looking to test your legs a bit more.
The views from the summit are fantastic, stretching out across the south‑eastern reaches of the Cairngorms.
Beinn a' Ghlò Circular
The Beinn a’ Ghlo circular is one of our favourite routes. It takes in 3 summits and is quite a big day, however it is well worth the effort. The route is a horseshoe, with step ascents up to the summit, making for some tired leg muscles the following day but well worth the effort. From the summit, on a clear day, you have an impressive view Westward over Rannoch moor and onto Glencoe.
Perthshire Holiday Cottages makes a great base for exploring the Munros near Blairgowrie. You can enjoy easy access to Glenshee, the Cairngorms, Blair Atholl, Pitlochry and the wider Perthshire hills, then return to a cosy cottage after a long day outdoors.
Whether you’re planning your first Munro, ticking off several summits, or simply looking for scenic hill walks during your stay, Blairgowrie is well placed for memorable days in the mountains.
